<Information related to floods>
・The flood inundation prone areas are areas designated by the river management authority (Kumamoto Prefecture) for the possible inundation ranges and depths at the time of inundation of rivers when the rivers have heavy rainfall under assumed conditions.
• Created by River Division, Department of Civil Engineering, Kumamoto Prefecture
<Information related to sediment disasters>
• The areas designated (including assumed) as special warning and warning areas for sediment disasters are posted after a detailed study of warning zones for sediment disasters have been performed based on the Sediment Disaster Prevention Act.
• Created by Erosion Control Division, Department of Civil Engineering, Kumamoto Prefecture

<Information related to seismic vulnerability>
• The seismic vulnerability map (assumed seismic intensity distribution map) is created using seismic motion prediction map data based on the research results of the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience, which shows the seismic intensity for each mesh.
• The seismic intensity shown on this map is the average magnitude of shaking predicted based on the magnitude of the earthquake and the distance from the epicenter. The intensity of shaking may vary depending on the earthquake.
• Created by the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience
<Information related to reservoirs>
•The heavy rains that occurred in July 2018 caused many reservoirs to overflow resulting in extensive damage to small reservoirs that were not designated for priority disaster prevention . In response, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries established a team to study countermeasures for reservoirs and in November 2018 released new guidelines that broadened the criteria for selecting reservoirs for priority disaster prevention, taking into account the potential harm to human life. In accordance with these criteria, , Kumamoto Prefecture reselected the reservoirs for priority disaster prevention as of the end of May 2019.
• The selection criteria for selecting reservoirs for priority disaster prevention are as follows.
1. Buildings and public facilities are situated within the flood inundation area, less than 100 meters away from the reservoir.
2. Buildings and public facilities are situated within the flood inundation area, between 100 to 500 meters away from the reservoir, and the water storage capacity is 1,000 cubic meters or more.
3. Buildings and public facilities are situated within the flood inundation area, more than 500 meters away from the reservoir, and the water storage capacity is 5,000 cubic meters or more.
4. Other reservoirs approved by prefectures and municipalities based on topographical conditions, the location of buildings and public facilities, and maintenance and management conditions.
• In areas where the ground level is lower than the mean monthly highest tide level, inundation may occur during the daily tide even after the storm surge has subsided if the banks are damaged.
• Criteria may be revised in the future with further study and improved notation.
